Churches invest in the Texas Methodist Foundation’s Methodist Loan Fund, which provides
construction loans to other United Methodist churches in Texas so they can grow
Christian communities throughout the sate. The same churches use the proceeds
from their investments to support their own communities. These circles of
investment are greatly exhibited at University Park United Methodist Church in
Dallas.
The connectional bond that the Methodist Loan Fund creates with other United Methodist
churches and institutions is the main reason University Park invests with the
Foundation. “Yes, it has competitive
rates, but we see it as a contribution to ministry because these funds are
loaned to other churches for building programs,” said Senior Pastor Thomas Q.
Robbins. Examples of beneficiaries from
the interest earned on University Park’s Methodist Loan Fund investment include
supporting high school students with scholarships and providing third graders
with new Bibles.

Churches, institutions and individuals who invest in the Methodist Loan Fund understand
the relationship between investing and giving—whether it’s to local
projects or United Methodist ministries elsewhere in Texas. University Park’s avenues of giving to the
Dallas area include Habitat for Humanity, Project Transformation, C.C. Young
Retirement Community and the Weekday School for children.
For example, the very active United Methodist Women’s group at University Park
supports these and other mission projects through monthly Circle Groups. “The
participation of these women is lovingly dedicated to the work of our Lord
through our church’s outreach ministries,” the group’s president said.
The
Foundation’s staff also appreciates the working with church investors to help
them reach out to their communities. Sara Beltran, Funds Administrator, adds,
“Working with our investors is very fulfilling. I go home each night knowing
that I’ve done a small part to benefit United Methodist churches and
institutions throughout Texas.”
