Starting anew is exhilarating to an emerging church start,
but not without challenges – meeting in borrowed spaces, developing plans for
ministry, and, of course, raising funds to build a hopeful presence in a
community. For Westover Fellowship in Amarillo, Dick Young eased the transition
by leading this congregation through a successful Building Disciples
campaign.
“Along with the challenges this church faced came the
excitement of building a congregation. It was infectious!” said Young. “They
were such a warm, friendly group of people. All that goodness manifested into
raising funds for a sanctuary they could call home. As soon as they were in that
new space, they began experiencing growth and probably will for some time to
come.”

Rev. Kevin Deckard, Senior Pastor of Westover Fellowship,
has worked with other stewardship consultants in the past, but found his
experience working with Young transcended his expectations. His evaluation of
Young’s performance extended to the general mission of the Foundation, as well.
“Dick brings ministry into the situation, and that spiritual aspect of teaching
stewardship sets the Foundation apart. It’s clear you want to help churches
build the Kingdom through the services you offer.”
In addition to conducting a successful capital campaign,
Young has also overseen an annual giving workshop for Westover Fellowship. He
looks forward to a continued partnership with this congregation, as does
Deckard. “We’ve got another project coming up, and I can really see us working
with Dick again.”
