SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS ON GIFT PLANNING

The Texas Methodist Foundation's development officers conduct group seminars and presentations outlining the importance of inheritance planning and ways individuals may effectively plan legacy gifts. These programs are offered at the church, district and conference level:

  • Putting Your House in Order - Do you have a plan for your loved ones? Who’s going to get all your stuff? This informative two-hour workshop guides participants through some of life’s toughest planning tasks. Samples of living wills and other important documents are discussed. A 33-page workbook [cost $10] is included to aid in making important decisions.

  • Extending Your Reach, Leaving a Legacy - This seminar explores the challenges and rewards involved in estate planning, including Christian wills, legal forms, and life income gift possibilities.  It is a shorter version of “Putting Your House in Order.”

  • A Guide to Personal Money Management - Our attitude towards money can either be a stumbling block in our faith journey or a means of growing in grace. This two part seminar delves into budgeting basics, debt management, investing, retirement needs, John Wesley's perspective on money, and more.

  • A Woman’s Guide to Money Management and Philanthropy - A one hour seminar introducing basic concepts of money management from a woman’s perspective…how to manage it, save it, invest it, and give it away in accordance with her overall goals, values, and United Methodist principles.

  • Faith and Money - This presentation is a combination of the basics of personal money management and the essentials of inheritance planning. It is designed with younger adults in mind.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities - This 45 minute presentation is designed for older adult Sunday School classes or gatherings. It explains planned giving from a Wesleyan perspective and describes a charitable gift annuity in simple terms. Aimed at adults age 65 and older, this seminar can serve both as an educational event and, if sponsored by the Foundation, as an event showcasing the Foundation and what it has given back to the church.

  • Creative Giving - This one hour seminar on gift planning examines creative ways to give everything from A to Z including gifts of stock, life insurance and real estate.
