David McCaskill - Senior Vice President of Loans
Email David

A solid background in financial management allows David McCaskill to effectively oversee the Texas Methodist Foundation’s loan operations and stewardship services departments. With the assistance of highly skilled and trained staff, he serves United Methodist churches in an advisory capacity and helps them understand safe debt limits as well as actually approving their loan applications.
“Our mission is to help churches as much as possible as they work through the loan process, especially in determining safe debt limits, whether the loan is ultimately made through the Foundation or another financial institution,” McCaskill said. “I find the consulting aspect of my job here to be very rewarding.”
Additionally, McCaskill manages the staff members who actually close the Foundation’s loans and follow up on past due accounts with great success.
Before he joined the Texas Methodist Foundation, McCaskill sharpened his skills working in the banking industry. He supervised the operations of five Bank of America (formerly NationsBank) branches in the Austin area, which included managing 100 staff members and overseeing more than $300 million in assets. McCaskill served as President of First National Bank of Georgetown prior to his move to Bank of America. He entered the banking field as a national bank examiner employed by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
As a graduate of Texas A&M University, McCaskill earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1978. He grew up in the West Texas town of Andrews.
McCaskill resides in Georgetown with his wife, Melissa. He has two daughters, Sarah and Katie. He is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

As Vice President of Loans and Real Estate, Robert Hoppe consults with United Methodist churches throughout the state to determine safe debt limits and loan capacities. He partners with members of the Foundation’s Stewardship Services staff to develop well-rounded strategies that join fundraising with financial planning as a sound basis for construction projects and land purchases. Hoppe also oversees the asset management and real estate holdings of the Foundation.
Prior to joining the Foundation in 1989, Hoppe worked independently in the commercial property management, oil and gas, and insurance industries. Hoppe is an active member of First United Methodist Church Georgetown. He and his wife, Becky, reside in Georgetown. They have two children: a daughter, Drew, and a son, Shay.
Carol Nelson - Assistant Vice President of Loans
Email Carol

Carol Nelson’s 13-year career with the Texas Methodist Foundation has been dedicated to assisting United Methodist churches and agencies as they expand and grow Christian ministries. Her primary focus in her current position is communicating with churches to determine loan needs and set safe debt guidelines. She also keeps lines of communication open with churches that are past due to assist them in resolving financial challenges they face.
“It’s exciting to see a church I’ve been working with come full circle and pay off a loan to purchase land or construct a building. Knowing I could contribute in making that happen is a very rewarding part of my work,” Nelson remarked.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Nelson worked in the banking industry, specifically in lending. As Construction Loan Manager for the Foundation, her background in lending was instrumental in developing the construction loan draw program still being used today. She also worked directly with contractors, church building committees and construction inspectors to ensure that needs were being met during critical phases of the construction process.
Nelson and her husband, David, reside in the Lake Travis area. She has two adult children and three beautiful granddaughters.
