Richard Caperton joins Texas Methodist Foundation as stewardship consultant (July 2008)
AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Methodist Foundation recently announced the addition of the Rev. Richard Caperton to its staff as the Foundation’s representative for the North Texas Annual Conference. Caperton will serve churches and individuals in the North Texas Annual Conference as they consider investment options and other services and resources offered by the Foundation. In addition, he will assist United Methodist congregations throughout Texas with capital campaigns.
“My passion is to assist churches in reaching their ministry potential,” Caperton said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to continue my work in stewardship programming aligned with an organization dedicated to strengthening the ability of United Methodist congregations so they may follow God’s calling to serve their communities.”
Caperton’s 20 years of local church ministry experience and his extensive work as a stewardship consultant give him first hand knowledge of the intricacies surrounding capital stewardship programming. During the 17 years he worked with RSI, he achieved the position of Senior Vice President and led more than 120 successful capital campaigns generating in excess of $600 million for local ministry. He has led capital programs for some of the fastest growing United Methodist churches in the nation, including Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kan. where he managed four distinctive capital programs. His work with Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington, Ill. raised in excess of $80 million. He has also worked with numerous United Methodist congregations in Texas, including Suncreek UMC in Allen, St. Andrew UMC in Plano, and Windsor Village UMC in Houston. He is frequently invited by churches to speak on the subject of church growth and stewardship.
“We appreciate Richard’s demonstrated ability to grow faithful givers,” added David McCaskill, senior vice president of loans and stewardship services. “His enthusiasm for his work and support of United Methodist ministries will allow him to guide congregations very effectively as a representative of the Foundation.”
Caperton’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Louisiana College in Pineville, La. and a master’s degree from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth. He and his wife Judy currently reside in Dallas.
