TMF Awards Medallion of Merit to Respected Leader John Wimmer

Austin, Texas – November 29, 2018 – Texas Methodist Foundation (TMF) recently awarded its TMF Medallion of Merit, the organization’s highest honor, to Dr. John Wimmer in recognition of his valuable role in the formation of TMF’s Leadership Ministry. TMF President Tom Locke presented the award at an awards dinner in Austin on November 19.

The TMF Medallion of Merit is bestowed on individuals who have made a significant contribution towards advancing the mission of TMF and/or the United Methodist Church (UMC). TMF recognizes Dr. Wimmer as a vital thinker, conversation partner, resource connector and supporter of TMF’s Leadership Ministry, which gathers a diversity of leaders into conversations and environments that foster discovery, learning, courage, and innovation.

“John challenged and supported TMF to develop its Leadership Ministry to inspire and sustain courageous leaders in the United Methodist Church, who will continually live into their identity as disciples and leaders of communities of faith working to bring about the world that God intends.” said TMF President Tom Locke. “We deeply appreciate his experience and commitment to our work to steward the potential of leaders and their congregations,” Locke continued. “And, as so many others would likewise testify, John has become a very dear friend to me personally.”

John Wimmer is Program Director in the Religion Division of Lilly Endowment Inc., where he has directed over $700 million in grants across the religious landscape.
